October 2004

Augusta Point with 49th Parallel Dive Charters.

Quite a large finger of rock sticks out into Stuart channel at Augusta point. You can anchor in the shallows of the bay to the east and drop in over the edge of this reef. Its not a deep dive but lots to see in that 40 to 50ft range. What's really cool here is a sandstone chimney formed  by dripping water or what I don't know. The entry to the chimney is at around 40 to 50 ft and goes straight up to within 10 ft of the surface. If you have trouble re-equalizing during a dive I would not recommend going up to the top. Keep in mind this is an enclosed overhead environment and should be respected as such. Only go in if you are suitable trained or experienced. Lots of ling cod and rock fish here.
