This Sculpture has now been Sold, thanks Tess for the great donation An Original Rockfish sculpture by Tess Vehrs-Brown This beautiful Rockfish sculpture was donated to the Boeing project in order to recover some of the outstanding debt and maintenance costs. The artist Tess Vehrs-Brown a Stone sculptor from Colfax, WA was inspired during her visit to Thetis Island in 2004, by the Aircraft sitting on the beach and the idea of creating Habitat for sea creatures. Tess was attending the Vancouver Island Stone sculptors Symposium held at Camp Columbia, on Thetis Island. The camp is the property next to Don & Gwen Hunters where we had stored the aircraft while waiting to get the permits and building the platform. Tess returned to the Thetis Symposium this year (2006) and brought with her this Sculpture which she had promised to donate to the Boeing project. Many people visited the aircraft that year, many donated but this is the only stone sculpture donated to the project. Thank you Tess The sculpture is 18 inches tall, carved from Brazilian Soapstone and weighs about 35lbs. The picture's don't do the sculpture justice. The two Rockfish are so real looking that you think you have just seem them diving. The two fish are surrounding a piece of bull Kelp often seen our diving trips. What's truly astounding about this sculpture is that Tess is not a diver and so has not seen these fish in there real environment. She has meticulously carved these fish from pictures and inspiration and managed to capture the real beauty of our local Rockfish.
