Our Favorite general locations.

Porlier Pass.

Porlier Pass boasts a minimum of 8 excellent dives that could easily fit into a top ten list by themselves. Most are current dives but many with sufficient planning and guidance, are easily within reach of most divers . The sheer variety of sea life is staggering. All are boat dives excepting Pringle park and Coons bay. The bottom is literally carpeted with white pulmose or green and purple sea urchins, depending on the location you descend on. When you see how many ling cod hang out here and not just small ones you begin to wonder why there is a fishing closure. Once you pull yourself away from the splendor of this spot and start looking closer, you start to see the really interesting stuff, like Big crusty Puget sound king crab, War bonnets hiding in crevices, Sponges, Sea pens, and beautifully colorful Nudibranchs of all shapes and sizes. The two wrecks here are a glimpse at marine history that you will not find elsewhere. We even found some cloud sponge one day at 87 ft in the middle of the pass. The trouble with diving in Porlier is that afterwards many other places seem dull by comparison.

Trincomali Channel

Porlier Pass Feeds this region and as a consequence has some fantastic dive sites. A number of small gulf islands dot this region and  there are numerous walls and reefs to explore. Andy and I have dove a lot of spots from Aticve passs to Gabriola Pass and have a found a few choice dives to share with you. Governor rock is the most recent site we have added to the list, Andy calls it the best site in Trincomali after Porlier pass. The wreck of the Panther is at the south end of Wallace island.

Stuart Channel.

This often overlooked body of water sports easily 6 dives from shallow to deep, with a variety of topology that calls to you to come back and look some more. Ling Cod , Rock fish, Octopus and of course all the variety of Pulmose, Nudibranch and Soft Corals found up and down this coast. What's exciting about these dive sites is the Sandstone slabs and boulders that cluster on the bottom creating habitat for diverse sea life including Tiger rockfish, Quillbacks, and even Black rockfish can be found from the shallows to the depths. The shear volume of water that is in this area makes diving a dream as current is not a real concern, so you can plan you dive around the slack ,and enjoy a pleasant cruise. From one end of a reef to the other this area is always full of surprises, such as swimming scallops, mud sharks or hairy decorator crabs. The bottom features Caves to peek into or crevices between boulders to swim through. Easy boat access from Crofton, Chemainus or Ladysmith, makes this area an explorers paradise.
